The therapeutic MATRIX-Manual applies in the whole world as one of the therapeutic standard procedures, that refers to addiction problems and treats methamphetamine problems. Meanwhile its effectiveness was evaluated and resulted in a significant, positive effect, compared to common therapies, especially in the beginning of an outpatient treatment, that lasted for several months. It includes both, classical client manuals, as well as therapist manuals, that seem indispensable for the broad range of work, as well as additional material for various target populations (e.g. women, families), so that also very specific settings can be applied in addiction care and on the psychiatric field.
The Matrix Model is a multi-element package of therapeutic strategies that complement each other and they are combined, to produce an integrated outpatient treatment experience. It is a set of evidence-based practices delivered in a clinically coordinated manner as a “program.” The research reports that describe the compilation of clinical experience with the model, plus the results of a multi-site trial have all provided information on the application of the entire package of techniques. However, many of the treatment strategies within the model are derived from clinical research literature, including cognitive behavioral therapy, research on relapse prevention, motivational interviewing strategies, psycho-educational information and 12-sstep program involvement.
Our adaption of Matrix was supported by the Federal Ministry of Health and the Thuringia Ministry of Work, Social Affairs, Health, Women and Family.
